A distinguished alumna of the University of Minnesota, Mary earned her Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, laying the foundation for a career defined by analytical rigor and strategic insight. She began her professional journey at Ingenix in 1998 as Principal, where she honed her expertise in risk management, analytics, and actuarial science. Her work there set the stage for a career dedicated to improving healthcare systems and advancing organizational excellence.
In 2007, Mary joined UnitedHealth Group as Chief Actuary for UHC Medicare & Retirement, a position she held for nearly 14 years. In this role, she implemented innovative strategies that improved risk assessment, enhanced actuarial models, and contributed to sustainable healthcare programs affecting millions of members nationwide. Mary’s dedication and forward-thinking approach quickly distinguished her as a leader in the healthcare field.
Mary later served as Senior Vice President of Risk & Analytics at UnitedHealthcare, CEO of UnitedHealthcare E&I Global, and ultimately Executive Vice President of Risk and Analytics at UnitedHealth Group. Across these roles, she strengthened organizational decision-making, guided strategic initiatives, and fostered scalable healthcare innovations. Colleagues remember her not only for her professional acumen but for her generosity, warmth, and collaborative spirit. She was a mentor to countless emerging professionals, cultivating the next generation of healthcare analysts and executives.
Beyond her professional achievements, Mary was deeply committed to her community in Hopkins, supporting educational programs, encouraging young women to pursue careers in mathematics and analytics, and advancing initiatives for equitable healthcare access. Mary is survived by her family, friends, and countless colleagues whose lives she profoundly touched. A memorial service to honor her life and contributions will be announced by her family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to programs supporting healthcare education, analytics mentorship, and equitable healthcare initiatives, reflecting the values she championed throughout her life.
